When hitting the outside pitch the most important thing is to be patient and allow the ball to travel longer into the hitting zone. Many coaches call this “letting the ball get deeper”. Stepping towards the location of the pitch is a mistake because it takes too long and can throw you off balance. A great way to practice hitting an outside pitch is to set up a tee so that the stem of it is parallel to your back groin muscle . This is the area that you want to make contact with the ball. Make sure that there is still some flexion in the elbow of your top hand. Full arm extension at contact equals less power.
